The extracts contained cellular components, including lipids, proteins, DNA, and RNA. The extracts were mixed with live R bacteria and then injected together into mice along with various enzymes (proteases, RNAses, and DNAses). Proteases degrade proteins, RNAses degrade RNA, and DNAses degrade DNA.
