A battery produces a direct current. Direct current (DC) is electric current of constant magnitude that is always in one direction through a wire.
However, an electric socket is receiving an alternating current from the power plants. Alternating current (AC) is electric current that reverses its direction in a periodic pattern.
Alternating current reduces the high voltage transmitted from the distant power plants to safer voltage to be used in house.
Conclusion: The current from a battery is direct current while the current from an electric socket is alternating current.
