Concept introduction:
An atom that has four nonequivalent atoms or groups attached to it is known as the chiral atom. Chiral centers are also termed as asymmetric or stereogenic centers. An atom that does not have four nonequivalent atoms or groups attached to it is known as an achiral atom.
