Chapter 6, Problem 27P

A Hertzian dipole is a short conducting wire carrying an approximately constant current over its length l. If such a dipole is placed along the z axis with its midpoint at the origin, and if the current flowing through it is i(t) = I0 cos ωt, find the following:

  1. (a) The retarded vector potential A ˜ ( R , θ , ϕ ) at an observation point Q(R, θ, φ) in a spherical coordinate system.
  2. (b) The magnetic field phasor H ˜ ( R , θ , ϕ ) .

Assume l to be sufficiently small so that the observation point is approximately equidistant to all points on the dipole; that is, assume R'R.

Blurred answer
Students have asked these similar questions
1. Plot the point with spherical coordinates (2,-5n/6, n/6) and describe its location in both rectangular and cylindrical coordinates.
2. In a system involving cylindrical symmetry, how do you use different kinds of Bessel functions (Bessel functions, modified Bessel functions, and Hankel functions) to describe the radial-dependent electromagnetic field?
A rectangular coil with a height of 5 cm and a width of 3 cm has 40 turns and a current of 1.2 A flows through it. Find the magnitude of the magnetic dipole moment (A.m”).
