Interpretation:

Using the given data of rate constant at different temperature, activation energy,ΔG0,ΔH0 and ΔS0 should be determined for the reaction at 300C.

Concept introduction:

  • Arrhenius equation used to find the rate constant by showing the fraction of collisions with effective orientation and represents the fraction of collisions with sufficient energy to produce a reaction.  Also this reaction gives the quantitative relation of temperature with the rate constant of reaction.

k=AeEaRT

k is the rate constant, A is the frequency factor, Ea is the activation energy

R is the gas constant and T is the temperature.

If rate constant at several temperature is known, using Arrhenius equation activation energy,ΔG0,ΔH0 and ΔS0 can be calculated.

  • Activation energy (Ea) can be obtained using Arrhenius equation from the slope of a plot of ln k versus because,

  • ΔH0=EaRT
