To review:
A newly discovered structure in a marine invertebrate is a gland, which is able to release hormone or hormones.
Introduction:
Generally, all the animal phyla consist of hormone systems secreting hormone released into the bloodstream to target distant organs to regulate specific physiological function.
It is always important to know the true function of a structure present in an organism. When a new structure is discovered, which has not been studied before, there are studies done to know its true nature. To know that it is a gland secreting a hormone, experimental studies can be done to validate the hypothesis.
