Chapter 47.2, Problem 2LO
Summary Introduction
To trace: The pathways traveled by an ingested material through the human
Introduction: Digestive system consists of a collection of organs that helps in the digestion of food materials and converting them into the basic energy-rich molecules for supplying them to the entire body. Several organs are involved in the digestive system that starts from the mouth and ends at the anus. Complex food materials are converted to the simplified and utilizable form and the left over waste materials are stored in large intestine where it is expelled from the body.

Trace digestion and final absorption of a carbohydrate (starch) in the vertebrate gut, naming the carbohydrate-splitting enzymes, where they are found, the breakdown products of starch digestion, and in what form they are finally absorbed.
Follow the digestive process, include both mechanical and chemical digestion of nutrients, where in the digestive tract digestion begins and ends, include organs and enzymes involved in digestion. Clearly define the mechanical and chemical aspects of digestion. Regarding storage systems-How does the body process an excess amount of carbohydrate and fat consumed?
List the parts of the human digestive tract that food passesthrough, and note whether chemical and/or mechanicaldigestion occurs in each.
