Introduction:
Many components of our body consist of specific cell groups and the surrounding materials. These groups of specialized cells are called tissue. The tissue structure and function are so strongly linked that, considering its composition, we can often predict the function of a tissue and vice versa. In our body, four major types of tissues are present. These are connective tissue, epithelial tissue, nervous tissue, and muscle tissue. The special cells of the different connective tissues form the extracellular matrix. The extracellular matrix of connective tissue has three main components: 1) protein fibers, 2) ground substance, which consists of non-fibrous protein and other molecules; and 3) fluid.
