In vertebrates, the rate and timing of contraction of the entire cardiac muscle cells is controlled by the sinoatrial (SA) node, or pacemaker. The cluster of auto rhythmic cells present at the wall of the right atrium is called as sinoatrial node (SA node) or pacemaker.
