Introduction: The nervous system contains two types of cells that are neurons and glial cells. Neurons are the specialized type of cells that help in the transmission of signals whereas; glial cells are the support cell that provides nourishment and protection to the neurons. Glial cells make up almost 50% of the brain volume. Types of glial cells present in the vertebrates are astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, ependymal cells, and microglia.
