Summary Introduction

The synthesis of the protein from the mRNA sequence by the RNA polymerase enzyme is known as translation. Proteins are composed of amino acids and they play important roles in the structure and function of cells. A signal sequence or signal peptide is a short peptide chain (15 to 20 amino acid residues). The signal sequence is generally found in the newly synthesized N terminus of the protein sequence. The signal sequence helps to export the synthesized protein molecule across the cytoplasmic membrane. Also, the signal sequence prevents protein folding, a molecular process inhibits the secretion of the protein.
