Chapter 41, Problem 2TYK
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Different regions of the brain receive signals from different sense organs via afferent nerve fibers. For example, the visual stimulus is received by visual cortex of brain and olfactory stimulus is received by olfactory region. The stimuli are received by sensory receptors that are present in skin, eyes, ears, nose, and tongue. There are mainly five types of receptors, namely nociceptors, mechanoreceptors, thermoreceptors, chemoreceptors, and photoreceptors.

It is characterized by a circular center and a doughnut-shaped surround c. It is found only in primary sensory cortex d. It can be mapped by electrophysiological recording techniques e. It can involve an excitatory response (e.g., to touch)
The lowest level of stimulation that a person can consciously detect 50 percent of the time the stimulation is present is called a. absolute threshold. c. sensation. b. just noticeable difference. d. sensory adaptation.
