Concept explainers
To Explain: The multiple-domain magnetite magnets with in the skulls of pigeon that are connected to the brain helps them in navigation.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The particle that stay in a single domain state in a magnetic field is known as a single domain particle. The phenomenon of magnetic fields produced by the living organism is known as biomagnetism.
Pigeons have a magnetic sense that they can discern longitudinal directions along the Earth’s magnetic field and can also detect the latitude by the dip in the Earth’s field. Due to biomagnetism in the pigeon skulls, they can sense the Earth’s magnetic field and can create a map within their brains which enables them to navigate.
Conclusion:
The biomagnetism in the skulls of the pigeon creates a map in the brain.
