To determine the number of sidewalks needed.

Answer to Problem 71SPR
6 sidewalks are needed to connect all buildings.
Explanation of Solution
Given information :
There are 4 buildings.
No three of which stand in a straight line.
We have to construct sidewalks so that each building is directly connected to every other building.
It is given that no three buildings are in straight line.
Let the building be A, B, C and D.
Hence we need three sideways to directly access rest three buildings.
A to B, A to C, A to DC
Now we need two sidewalks to connect B from others.
B to C, B to D
Now we need one sidewalk to connect the remaining C to D.
Now all are connected to each other.
Total sidewalks are 3+2+1 = 6
