The familiar monkeys and apes come under the lineage known as Haplorhini. They have many primate traits like forward-facing eyes, dry and compact noses. Its major lineage probably arose in Africa. Haplorhini lineage has one sub-lineage called anthropoids that diversified into two lineages: one ancestral to old world monkeys and the other related to apes and humans, which comes under a monophyletic group, Hominoidea.
