Chapter 3, Problem 43RE
Steel A steel company produces two types of alloys. A run of type I requires 3000 lb of molybdenum and 2000 tons of iron ore pellets as well as $2000 in advertising. A run of type II requires 3000 lb of molybdenum and 1000 tons of iron ore pellets as well as $3000 in advertising. Total costs are $15,000 on a run of type I and $6000 on a run of type II, Because of various contracts, the company must use at least 18,000 lb of molybdenum and 7000 tons of iron ore pellets and spend at least $14,000 on advertising. How much of each type should be produced to minimize costs?
