Introduction: A process by which a covalent linkage is formed between the two nucleotides of DNA and an agent (endogenous or exogenous) is called the cross-linking of DNA. The cross-links can be interstrand (between the DNA strands) or intrastrand (within a strand). Both the types of cross-linking are considered to be mutagenic. However, the interstrand DNA cross-links are much more mutagenic than the intrastrand cross-links.
