Interpretation:
The special role played by the glucogenic amino acids during fasting or starvation is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
The products formed by the catabolism of amino acids determine whether that amino acid is glucogenic or ketogenic. If the product formed is either pyruvate or intermediates formed in the TCA cycle then that amino acid is classified as glucogenic while the amino acids that produce acetyl CoA and acetoacetyl CoA on degradation cannot be used to make glucose.
