Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: To identify the coenzyme(s) that convert pyruvate to $\text{acetyl CoA}$ in the human body.

Concept introduction: Enzymes are defined as specialized proteins that act as biological catalysts. Enzymes accelerate the biochemical reactions to produce the substances that are needed for cells for their proper functioning and are very specific to their action.

Coenzymes are non-protein organic compounds that are used along with the enzymes and help to carry forward the reaction. Coenzymes cannot perform on their own alone.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is associated with the redox reactions in metabolism. Its reduced form is NADH and oxidized form is ${\text{NAD}}^{+}$.
