Interpretation:
A suitable mechanism for the ß-ketoacyl ACP synthase reaction should be written showing how the involvement of malonyl CoA drives this reaction forward.
Concept Introduction:
In fatty acid synthesis, condensation of acetyl CoA and malonyl CoA is driven by condensation. This decarboxylative condensation of acyl group with malonyl ACP to produce a ß ketoacyl-ACP intermediate is catalyzed by ß ketoacyl ACP synthase.
