Chapter 22, Problem 22.3P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Synthetic approach to synthesize an aromatic halogenation reaction in one step.

Concept introduction:

This is a type of aromatic halogenation reaction. In this reaction Bromine, Br2, does not react with benzene under normal conditions, but bromination produces bomobenzene in the presence of Fe or FeBr3 where FeBr3 acts as a Lewis acid. The product of an aromatic halogenation, an aryl halide, could be the desired target in the synthesis. An aryl halide could be a useful synthetic intermediate such as in the production of a Grignard reagent.

PBr3 can be used to convert the OH group into a good leaving group.

In reactions whose kinetic equation is v = k[A]m, the rate coefficient k is always positive. Is this correct?
If the concentration of A decreases exponentially with time, what is the rate equation? (A). -d[A] (B). dt d[A] = k[A] e-kt dt
