Nitration is the aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction in the presence of concentrated nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid. In this reaction, nitronium ion NO2+ are attached to the aromatic ring and acts as an electrophile. Reagent Fe and HCl is converted nitrobenzene to aniline. Benzene undergoes aromatic electrophilic substitution with molecular bromine in the presence of a Lewis acid such as FeBr3 to yield bromobenzene. NaBH4 is a reducing agent that is used to convert the carbonyl carbon to alcohol.
