Chapter 22, Problem 22.31P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The detailed mechanism for the electrophilic aromatic substitution that takes place in the given reaction is to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

Friedel–Crafts acylation of formylation (replacing H by a formyl group HC=O) requires in situ formation of the very unstable Cl-CH=O. In Friedel–Crafts acylation, the aromatic species is treated with an acid chloride, also called an acyl chloride. (An acyl group is R-C=O.) The strong Lewis acid catalyst, AlCl3, is responsible for generating the cationic electrophile, called an acylium ion, in the first two steps. In Step 1, the Cl atom of the acyl chloride coordinates to the electron-deficient Al atom. In Step 2, the C-Cl bond undergoes heterolysis. Step 3 is electrophilic addition of the acylium ion to the benzene ring, producing the arenium ion intermediate. Finally, in Step 4, removing the proton from the arenium ion yields the aromatic ketone product.

PLEASE READ!!! I DONT WANT EXAMPLES, I DONT WANT WORDS OR PARAGRAPHS FOR THE MECHANISM!!! THANKS First image: QUESTION 6. I have to show, with ARROWS and STRUCTURES, the mechanism of the reaction at the bottom. Also I have to show by mecanism why the reaction wouldn't work if the alcohol was primary. I also tried to draw the mechanism, tell me what to change. Please note that its an AMIDE thats formed not an AMINE the nitrogen has ONE hydrogen and one Phenyl-C-Phenyl. I already asked for this mechanism and got as a final product ...-NH2 not whats shown on the picture, thank you Ths second part. QUESTION 3. I just need a way to synthesize the lactone A, I already started please continue from where I left it  Second image: I simply need the products, substrates or reagents, thank you
