Nonpolar solvent dissolves the nonpolar solute and polar solute is dissolve in polar solvent because the two are attracted to one another and the bonds binding the molecules of the non polar solute are broken.
Explanation of Solution
There are two main factors to make any solution one is solute and other is solvent.
When both solute and solvent are nonpolar , there is no force of attraction for non polar molecules. Still both the molecules interact and gets dissolve in each other.
When both the solute and solvent is polar, they disintegrate into ions, because of this charge dispersion that is prevalent everywhere in the solvent.

- Strength of Intermolecular forces between two solvent molecules.
- Strength of Intermolecular forces between two solute molecules.
- Strength of intermolecular forces between solute and solvent.
