Question
Chapter 2.11, Problem 1CR
Summary Introduction
Several Archaea and Bacteria possess the ability to travel by swimming. This motility is aided by the presence of thin structures referred to as flagella (in Bacteria) or archaella (in Archaea). Prokaryotic cells can be subjected to appropriate staining techniques and the flagella can be visualized using a light or electron microscope. Flagella are attached on the surface of the cell in several different locations. Based on the distribution of flagella, the flagellar arrangement is categorized as monotrichous, amphitrichous, lophotrichous, and pertrichous.

a) the microtubules slide relative to each other along the length of the cilium
b) it is an action of the microfilaments expanding and contracting
c) The basal body is actually actinf as the ‘motor’
d) The microtubules slide relative to each other along the length of the cilium
e.) This action is very different than that of eukaryotic flagella
The Amoeba, the paramecium, and the euglena ( These are unicellular Protozoans) produce electrical impulses that travel along their cell membrane. This is possible because they are specialized to use properties exhibited by all cells. These properties include ... A) Separation of the fluid environments inside and outside the cell B) Active transport of Na+ out of and K+ into the cell. C) Portal proteins that allow diffusion of Na+ and K+ back in to the cell D) Maintaining unequal Na+ and K+ concentrations on the two sides of the membrane. E) All of these are true
