Concept explainers
To identify: Whether pan or water will absorb more heat from the room.
Answer to Problem 39A
Water absorbs more heat from the room.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The amount of heat absorbed will depend on the mass of the element, the specific heat of the element and the change in temperature.
The specific heat of the water is larger than the specific heat of any metal, but the temperature rise in both water and metal will be same, as the specific heat of water is approximately (4180 J/kg.K ) which is larger than all the common metals.
Hence, the water will absorb more heat than pan from the room.
