Introduction: Proteoglycans are the proteins that appear differently in structure as well as composition from the others and are covalently linked to the glycosaminoglycan (GAGs-negatively charged polysaccharides) to form a core protein. Their structure that contains abundant negative charge helps to hold water within them and thereby they swell and occupy a large volume when compared to other proteins. This property makes them the “space fillers” of the cells.
