Meningitis is a deadly disease that infects the membranes of the brain and spinal cord – meninges. It may be acute or chronic. Bacterial meningitis is the most common type of meningitis, which causes the tissues around the brain to swell. Bacteria responsible for causing meningitis is most commonly seen in the environment, but it is also seen in the nose and respiratory system.
