ALGOL 60:
ALGOL 60 was the result for the need for a universal language for scientific applications The two professional organizations which together designed ALGOL 60 were:
- Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); and,
- GAMM (a German acronym for Society for Applied Mathematics and
Mechanics ).
Missing language element of ALGOL 60:
The lack of input and output statements in the language was the major missing element which damaged the widespread use of ALGOL 60. The other reasons are as follows:
