Introduction:

Restriction enzymes are the proteins, which cut the DNA at specific restriction sites, and are also called by the name restriction endonucleases. Restriction enzymes are of four types, depending on their specificity. Four types of restriction enzymes are type I, type II, type III and type IV restriction enzyme. Type II restriction enzyme is mostly used in molecular genetics, because of their specificity. They cut directly on the restriction site and they only require Mg $2^{+}$ ions as cofactor. Type I and type III are not as specific as type II and they also need many cofactors to perform the function.
