Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation:

The mechanism of the given reaction is to be predicted.

Concept introduction:

Reduction is a process in which a hydrogen atom is added or an oxygen atom is removed from a substance. Reduction occurs with the help of reducing agent. Reducing agents themselves get oxidized. A strong reducing agent can reduce all the carbonyl groups present in a compound into alcohol.

Interpretation Introduction

(b)

Interpretation:

The mechanism of the given reaction is to be predicted.

Concept introduction:

Oxime belongs to the family of imines. The formula of oxime is RRC=NOH. Types of oxime are ketoxime and aldoxime. When aldehydes and ketones are treated with ammonia, an imine derivative is formed. This reaction is known as Schiff base reaction. The maximum yield is obtained in the Schiff base reaction at pH=5.
