To explain: Whether wilted lettuce be soaked in salt water, tap water, sugar water, or be placed in light to rejuvenate it.
Introduction: When a plant wilts, it is because the outside environment loses water and cause increase in solute concentration. This pulls out water from cells and the process is known as osmosis. This is based on the tonicity of the extracellular solution. If the extracellular solution is hypertonic, the water will move out of cell. If the extracellular solution is hypotonic, the water will flow into the cell.
