The extrinsic mechanism of blood coagulation, the factor initiating it, other procoagulants, and the common point of convergence with the intrinsic mechanism.

Introduction:

Blood coagulation takes place as two distinct reaction pathways, namely the extrinsic pathway and the intrinsic pathway, both of which require various factors from beginning to end and involve around 30 chemical reactions. In the extrinsic pathway, factors outside the blood are involved, whereas in the intrinsic pathway, the involved factors are present within.
