These substances include gases, which are dissolved in the liquid medium of blood and are absorbed by the lungs or are meant to be excreted out of the body; nutritive substances absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; substances produced as waste byproducts from tissues that are meant to be transported to organs like the kidneys for excretion; hormones intended to exert their effects at sites distant from where they are secreted; and various stem cells that originate in the bone marrow and are intended to various tissues where they settle and develop.
