Introduction:
Hemostasis is defined as the process of stopping of bleeding. There are hemostatic mechanisms within the body designed to prevent blood loss, which, if continued unchecked, may lead to death.
A thrombus is a formed clot that is localized to a particular site. An embolus is a mobile thrombus that moves around in a blood vessel, usually dislodged from a thrombus, and thromboembolism is a condition with travelling clots in the bloodstream. Thrombosis is a clotting disorder where clots arise even in unbroken vessels.
