Introduction:
Jumping genes are the segments of a gene present in the genome that have the ability to jump between chromosomes, plasmids, or viral genomes. They are also known as insertion element, or IS element, that i, shey can insert themselves into any place of the genome. Barbara McClintock, in the year 1940, showed the presence of a jumping gene in Indian maize. She got a Nobel Prize in 1983 for this discovery.
