Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

To formulate a pathway from arginine to putrescine using the intermediate agmatine.

Concept introduction:

There are majorly two routes of putrescine biosynthesis that exists in bacteria which emerge from the later part of the arginine biosynthesis pathway. The experiments have indicated that putrescine biosynthesis can take place with both arginine and ornithine. The biosynthesis of arginine in bacteria has a branch point to putrescine and arginine that occurs at ornithine. Here the synthesis of putrescine from arginine indirectly via agmatine is discussed.
