Chapter 18, Problem 18.51P
A cylinder 1.00 m tall with inside diameter 0.120 m is used to hold propane gas (molar mass 44.1 g/mol) for use in a barbecue. It is initially filled with gas until the gauge pressure is 1.30 × 106 Pa at 22.0°C. The temperature of the gas remains constant as it is partially emptied out of the tank, until the gauge pressure is 3.40 × 105 Pa. Calculate the mass of propane that has been used.

50% Part (a) The initial pressure of the gas is 1 atm. What is the initial temperature (in K) of the gas?
T = 421.76T = 421.8 ✔ Correct!
50% Part (b) The pressure of the gas is increased to 10 atm. Now what is the temperature (in K) of the gas?
A cylinder 1.00 m tall with inside diameter of 0.120 m is used to
hold acetylene gas (molecular mass 26.04 g/mol) for welding. It
is initially filled with gas until the gauge pressure is 1.30 x 10°
Pa and the temperature is 22.0°C. The temperature of the gas
remains constant as it is partially emptied out of the tank, until
the gauge pressure is 2.00 x 10° Pa. Calculate the mass of
acetylene that has been used.
