Introduction:
5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is a pteridine with a unique ring structure. It follows the pyrimidine ring structure. It is named so as it was first isolated from the wings (Ptera in Greek means wings) of the English butterfly. It is a cofactor that is involved in many enzyme activities and is present in almost all the tissues of higher animals.
