Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Function of semipermeable membrane if it is placed between pure water and $10\text{ \%}$ sugar solution has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

As is evident from its name, semipermeable membrane allows passage of only solvent or water molecules in any direction but restricts movement of larger solute molecules. Diffusion of water from solution of lower to higher concentration via semipermeable membrane is called osmosis.
