Metabolism is defined as the sum of all chemical reactions taking place within an organism. It is subdivided into anabolism and catabolism. Metabolism consists of all the biochemical reactions responsible for the maintenance of life processes. It involves construction and destruction of biomolecules as well as macromolecules. These processes govern the rate of different life processes.
