Swallowing is also known as deglutition. The process of swallowing is defined as the movement of food from the mouth to pharynx and from pharynx to esophagus. This process is divided into two major phases and involves the participation of a multitude of organs. The two major phases of swallowing are a buccal phase and pharyngeal–esophageal phase.
