Chapter 14, Problem 1CQ

What might Stephanie determine as the best production quantity per cycle for each day of the week?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
Summary Introduction

To determine: The production sequence for cycle are S7, S8, S9, S1 and S2.

Introduction: A production cycle is a period through which the factors required by labors such as raw materials and goods stay in the creation process from the initial starting point of assembling through yield of finished goods.

Answer to Problem 1CQ

The production sequence for cycle S7 is 48, S8 is 90, S9 is 25, S1 is 120 and S2 is 102.

Explanation of Solution

Given Information:

Model Weekly Quantity
S1 120
S2 102
S7 48
S8 90
S9 25

The department operates five days a week. The production sequence is S7-S8-S9-S1-S2.

Calculate the daily demand for each model:

The demand for each model is calculated by dividing daily quantity of each model with total operational days.

DailyDemandS1=[DailyQuantityS1OperationalDays]=[1205]=24

DailyDemandS2=[DailyQuantityS2OperationalDays]=[1025]=20.4

DailyDemandS7=[DailyQuantityS2OperationalDays]=[485]=9.6

DailyDemandS8=[DailyQuantityS8OperationalDays]=[905]=18

DailyDemandS9=[DailyQuantityS9OperationalDays]=[255]=5

Calculate the number of units per cycle for each model

It is calculated by dividing the daily demands with total operational days.

NumberofUnitss1=[DailyDemandS1OperationalDays]=[245]=4.8

NumberofUnitsS2=[DailyDemandS2OperationalDays]=[20.45]=4.08

NumberofUnitsS7=[DailyDemandS7OperationalDays]=[9.65]=1.92

NumberofUnitsS8=[DailyDemandS8OperationalDays]=[185]=3.6

NumberofUnitsS9=[DailyDemandS9OperationalDays]=[55]=1

Calculate the production quantity per cycle for each day for 5 days from Monday to Friday.

This can be subjective. Production cycle should be on the sequence S7-S8-S9-S1-S2 done each cycle. We attempted to produce the same aggregate amount of units for every cycle. Whether this might have been not possible, we attempted with plan fewer units on the most last cycle of a day will consider getting up every day.

Calculate the production quantity per cycle for each model:

It is calculated by adding all the total values of each cycle from Monday to Friday.

ProductionQuantityS7=[10+10+10+10+8]=48

ProductionQuantityS8=[18+18+18+18+18]=90

ProductionQuantityS9=[5+5+5+5+5]=25

ProductionQuantityS1=[24+24+24+24+24]=120

ProductionQuantityS1=[21+21+21+21+18]=102

Hence, the production sequence for cycle S7 is 48, S8 is 90, S9 is 25, S1 is 120 and S2 is 102.

Excel Please. The workload of many areas of banking operations varies considerably based on time of day.  A variable capacity can be achieved effectively by employing part-time personnel.  Because part-timers are not entitled to all the fringe benefits, they are often more economical than full-time employees.  Other considerations, however, may limit the extent to which part-time people can be hired in a given department.  The problem is to find an optimal workforce schedule that would meet personnel requirements at any given time and also be economical.   Some of the factors affecting personnel assignments are listed here:   The bank is open from 9:00am to 7:00pm. Full-time employees work for 8 hours (1 hour for lunch included) per day. They do not necessarily have to start their shift when the bank opens. Part-time employees work for at least 4 hours per day, but less than 8 hours per day and do not get a lunch break. By corporate policy, total part-time personnel hours is limited…
