Question
Chapter 13.2, Problem 11R
To determine
Explain how vision problems reduced with lenses.
Expert Solution & Answer
Answer to Problem 11R
The image is formed at infinity if a light source placed at the focal point of a convex lens.
Explanation of Solution
Image formation by convex lens:
- When the object is placed closer than one focal length, the image formed is virtual and greater in size than object.
- When the object is placed between one and two focal length, real, inverted and greater image is formed.
- When the object is placed farther than two focal length, real, inverted and smaller than real image is formed.
Image formation by concave lens:
- When the object is placed closer than one focal length, the image formed is virtual and greater in size than object.
- When the object is placed between one and two focal length, real, inverted and greater image is formed.
- When the object is placed farther than two focal length, real, inverted and greater than real image is formed.
If light source placed at the focal point of a convex lens, image is formed at the infinity.
Conclusion:
Hence, the image formed at infinity.
