Given:

  $\frac{7}{12}-\frac{5}{8}$ .

Concept used:

The least common multiple of the denominator which is called least common denominator.

Change each fraction making equivalent fractions to make the denominators the same as the least common denominator.

Let the denominator as it is and add or subtract the numerator.

If denominators of two factors doesn’t contain common factor then the L.C.D will be multiplication of two denominators.

If denominator of two factors contain common multiple then the denominator will be common to the least or lowest common multiple.

Calculation:

  $\frac{7}{12}-\frac{5}{8}$ .

Subtracting the equation by taking Least common multiple or lowest common denominator:

  $\begin{array}{l}\Rightarrow \frac{7}{12}-\frac{5}{8}=\frac{7\times 2}{12\times 2}-\frac{5\times 3}{8\times 3}.\\ \Rightarrow \frac{14}{24}-\frac{15}{24}.\\ \Rightarrow \frac{-1}{24}.\end{array}$

Hence, the solution of the fraction is $-\frac{1}{24}.$
