Concept introduction:

Infrared spectroscopy deals with the infrared region ranging from $4000{\text{cm}}^{-1}\text{to}670{\text{cm}}^{-1}$ of electromagnetic spectrum. It is measured in wavenumbers. It shows two types of sharp absorption bands in electromagnetic spectrum for functional groups. Each functional group absorbs at different frequency.
