The mitochondrion is a double membranous cell organelle freely present in the cytoplasm of the cell. The outer membrane of the mitochondrion is smooth, whereas the inner membrane is folded into special structures called as cristae. The enzymes of the ETC are embedded in the inner membrane of the mitochondrion.
