The values of α,β,λ and Z0.

Answer to Problem 10.1P

α=0.0935Np/mβ=2.2447rad/mλ=2πβ=2.79mZO=93.6j3.61Ω

Explanation of Solution

Given:

Transmission line is operating atgiven frequency

   ω=6×108 rad/s

And the values of inductor, capacitor, conductance and resistance are given below-

   L=0.35μH/mC=40 pF/mG= 75μS/mR=17Ω/m.

Concept used:

Calculation of unknown quantities isdone by the following formula-

   γ=ZY=(R+jωL)(G+jωC)

Calculation:

By using the formula,

   γ=ZY=(R+jωL)(G+jωC)γ=(17+j0.35× 10 6×6× 108)(75× 10 6+j6× 108×40× 10 12)γ=0.0935+j2.2447m1but,γ=α+jβ

α=0.0935Np/mβ=2.2447rad/mλ=2πβ=2×3.142.2447=2.79m

The value of Zo is calculated by the following formula

   Z0=ZY= R + jωL G + jωCZ0= 17 + j2.1× 10 2 75× 10 6  + j2.4× 10 2 Zo=93.6j3.61Ω
