What Would You Do?
If you were a supervisor of a hospitality department, how would you inspire and motivate your employees to work together and adopt an “a ha”? Read the following scenarios and choose one to write a solution based on what you have learned in this module and from your own experience. At the beginning of your answer, please identify the scenario you have chosen to solve.

Scenario One
Management is planning on implementing new work plans for the department. They want to add extra hours into the work schedule to cope with the demand. Therefore, everybody's shifts will be longer by a few hours. When Brenda hears about this, she is very unhappy. How do you present this needed operational change to Brenda?

Scenario Two
You are about to start a new job at a very well-known resort as the food and beverage supervisor. You have heard that the employee team there is very close and well established. You want to make sure that you are accepted into their team so that you can, therefore, do the best in your job. How can you ensure that the transition into the team is a positive one?

Scenario Three
Victoria is a fantastic employee when asked to work alone. However, when required to work with others, she is very difficult and even rude. How do you help her improve her team working skills?

Scenario Four
Your department is very close; they all know each other well and socialize outside of work. A new employee has just come into the group, and it is evident that they do not feel part of the pack. How do you encourage the team to accept the new employee and vice versa?

Scenario Five
Many of your employees have come to you with several little problems. They all work in the Food and Beverage Department at the Queen's Resort and Spa, and you want all of them to work together to help each other out. How do you encourage them to work together as a team?

Scenario Six
You have several problems with your Food and Beverage Department. People have called in sick, the food order is incorrect, and one of the ovens is out of use. However, the employees that offer to help do not have any experience and seem to be adding to the problems instead of solving them. How do you go about teaching them to help remedy such a situation?
