France in the 18th century had gradually witnessed discrepancies between the monarchy and the state. This had been initiated by the mid-18th century itself which had resulted in the French Revolution by the last decade of this century.
There were both constitutional and economical factors which had greatly impacted the cause of this revolution, especially the latter. This was the time when concepts like "citizens", "nation", "public opinions", etc. had started emerging as people could feel that the monarchical government was losing its power.
